Joaquim T. de Paiva Muniz  – 
Co-Author of Arbitration Law of Brazil: Practice and Procedure. Head of the Arbitration Practice at Trench, Rossi & Watanabe in Rio de Janeiro.

Partner at Trench, Rossi & Watanabe (a law firm associated with Baker & McKenzie, Swiss Verain) in Rio de Janeiro and a member of the Brazilian and New York Bar. Mr. Muniz is also a professor of corporate law and arbitration at the Fundação Getúlio Vargas and Universidade Estadual do Rio de Janeiro. He is the general secretary of the Arbitration and Mediation Commission of the Brazilian Bar, Rio de Janeiro Chapter. Mr. Muniz has written articles about arbitration in publications such as the International Company and Commercial Law Review and the Revista de Mediação e Arbitragem, and was a member of the editorial counsel of the Revista de Direito Empresarial do IBMEC. Mr. Muniz has acted as counsel and arbitrator in ICC, UNCITRAL as well as cases overseen by Brazilian judges.

Barry H. Garfinkel  –  Head of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP's  International Litigation & Arbitration Practice.

Served as as lead counsel in international arbitrations for numerous multi-national companies (both U.S. and non-U.S. entities). He has appeared in ICC, UNCITRAL, ICSID, LCIA and AAA arbitrations, has served as party-nominated arbitrator in ICC, AAA and ad hoc arbitral tribunals and has served as the chairman of tribunals. Mr. Garfinkel has advised numerous firm clients on the preparation of arbitral clauses in international commercial contracts and overall arbitration strategy. He is a frequent speaker on AAA and ICC programs and has lectured before legal, corporate and banking entities in São Paulo. He has written on diverse international arbitration topics, which have been published in Mealey’s and in AAA publications, including "The International Comparative Legal Guide to: International Arbitration 2005" (Global Legal Group, January 2005). Mr. Garfinkel is listed as “Leading” in the Chambers USA and Global guides, in Euromoney Publications’ Guide and in
The Best Lawyers in America.
